Bobby Darin - The Musical

At the Lyric Theatre in Sydney, Australia a dream came true.

Magic happened on the night of October 6, 2016 with the opening of Dream Lover - The Bobby Darin Musical. It is based on the original concept and stage play of John Howson and Frank Howson, adapted for the stage by Simon Phillips and Carolyn Burns. Hard work by all made this a tremendous success with audiences and critics. Congratulations to the cast and crew on the very successful run that closed November 27, 2016. And we hope to see it performed all over the world. Bobby Darin is still in the hearts of so many. His music will always be current.

Dream Lover – The Bobby Darin Musical is a rare thing: an entirely homegrown biographical musical that, at last night’s world premiere, really worked.

The creative team has struck dramatic gold with Bobby Darin as their subject. The American singer/songwriter/movie star was diagnosed with a serious heart condition as a young boy. Doctors advised him he wouldn’t live long, so he threw himself into his work and life with extraordinary energy throughout the 1950s, ’60s and early ’70s, knowing it could all end at any point.

"Wow!! Wow!! Wow!! It was bloody fantastic, or should I say Tanfastic!! We were four rows from the front. From start to finish, my toes were tapping, my fingers were snapping and I was singing along. David Campbell is magnificent as Bobby and Hannah Fredericksen who plays Sandra Dee was brilliant. If it goes over seas to where you all are, please do yourself a favour and see it (Not that you'd need any encouraging from me) but as an Aussie who heard about it from its first concept, I was very skeptical ... but they've done my country proud and I'm so happy that people are talking about the magnificent Bobby Darin again!!"

"That's how close we were."

What did Dodd Darin think about it?
