Jimmy Scalia from Lodi NJ had a chilling experience.
Jimmy had a close encounter of the Darin kind, when he spoke to
to Bobby on the phone a few weeks ago. Here is how it all happened.
History on Jimmy: Jimmy has been a fan of
Bobby Darin since childhood. In 1993, he hooked up with
another collector( the webmaster of this site) and this began a long friendship,
based on Bobby's life and music. In 1998, when the WM got a call from Harriet
Wasser, Jimmy asked the WM to introduce him to her because he had written
a song about Bobby and he wanted her to hear it. Hesh took an instant liking to Jimmy,
who was ( and still is) a media specialist. Harriet hooked up Jimmy
with Darin manager Steve Blauner and a close friendship resulted via AT&T.
When Steve's daughter Moon was about to get married, Jimmy made
the music tape for her wedding reception. It was special music for a special event,
as it was ALL DARIN MUSIC. However, Jimmy wanted to make sure Bobby
approved of all the selections. He wondered how he could do this
...then one night...
"I was sleeping soundly and suddenly I woke up, " Jimmy recalls.
"I had a sudden compulsion to dial a number....I can't remember what it was...
and suddenly....I was talking to Bobby....it was the most surreal experience I ever had in my life
and I will never forget it."
