BOBBY DARIN
THE BIG BEAT
The Big Beat was a New York based "Bandstand" program in the late 1950's. On this particular episode, in April 1959(?), Bobby filled in
for host Alan Freed. He did not sing, but used his sense of humor and impeccable sense of timing to ad-lib and run the show very smoothly. Among his duties on the program were interviewing several young ladies for a sponsor-based "April Showers" beauty pageant, introducing dance numbers and doing a Coke commerical.
