Hi Dodd! Birthday greetings from Long Island!
Just wanted to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy birthday. Your dad will always have a special place in my heart-he was my very first little schoolgirl crush.
Thank you for your book-it was very touching-the last chapters were hard to read though. As an RN I know if I'd been there, I'd have been right there at his house tirelessly caring for him making sure he was never alone.(It's too bad I was only a college
reshman at the time!)
But I did come away with 3 very positive impressions from your book: 1) your dad knew what was important, truely enjoying the gifts in his life-you and performing, 2)when it came to the bottom line he always did the right thing, and 3)he was always proud
f you then and he would be very proud of the man you've become on your own now.
He was a special person..and you are, too. Have a great birthday.

Dear Mr. Darin,
I have been a huge fan of your father's since 1958 when I was ten years old. He was the single greatest entertainer of the twentieth century, better than Sinatra and Presley, a terrific actor, great songwriter, gifted writer, and the definitive cabaret p
rformer of his generation. He was probably the best white singer of r & b, and essentially invented folk rock, and was one of the first and most important pop artists to crossover into country. But you know all this...just know that there are others who
hare this knowledge.
Thank you for your efforts to keep your father's name and talent alive. We all hope to see more and more of the great music on CD (this year has been a wonderful improvement).
I'm a professional writer (author of fifty published novels, most recently the novelization of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN) and have on occasion written about your father.
Your book was first-rate.
Happy birthday and God bless you.

Happy birthday, Dodd. Ever since I was a little girl, I've been smart enough to think Bobby Darin was one of the greatest entertainers ever, and I cut my teeth on Al Jolson! To me, your father was in the same class, and I think that's saying something.
How much I appreciate that you wrote "Dream Lovers"! Thanks for that--and I wish you continued success in all you do.

Dear Mr. Darin-
First, Happy Birthday!
Second, I'll make this short!
Thirdly, I must tell you your father is a big inspiration to a lot os us: this site speaks for itself. But as a young aspiring actor/singer, Bobby Darin and so much about him serves as a guide to show biz, to life, to the arts and so much more. I can onl
hope I gain one moment of a career like his. If I do not reach such goals, know of the importance he left for us students of the craft. If I do go where my heart is leading me, all credit due will go out to the world that Mr. Darin was and is a part of
my success. Now I hope that doesn't sound overly dramatic or anything, it's just you should be very proud and I am that many things I've learned about from performing to life, comes from you father and his likes.
So lastly, please keep up on the release of new Darin material as it benifits fans as well as us students of the arts, thanks for giving us the book, all the best, and again Happy Birthday!!!
Take Care-

I want to first wish you a very Happy Birthday Dodd, plus I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you how much I enjoyed your book. It was difficult to read about how your dad suffered, but I do appreciate all the hard work you put into it. I'm sure th
t you've enlightened many fans about both of your parents and I know that I now appreciate your father much more than if the book had not been written.
Your dad brought such energy to a performance and had such a dynamic stage presence. His music is the only music that I've ever been able to listen to day after day and never tire of. I feel that one of the marks of a truly great artist is for their mus
c to always seem "fresh" regardless if it was recorded decades ago. When I listen to Darin at the Copa (for example), it's not "dated": it has such spirit, vitality and energy that it could've been recorded yesterday! I truly hope that your father recei
es the appreciation for his outstanding talent that he has always deserved.
Lastly, I'd like to send my best wishes to your Mom, your wife and your little daughter. I'm so glad to hear that things are going well with you and your family. I can only imagine what a grandpa Bobby would've been! Best of luck with everything and (o
ce again) Happy Birthday!!!

Hi Dodd,
Happy Birthday! I'm so glad to have this opportunity to write to you. I became a big fan of your Dad's back in 1972 when he was making a comeback. I was only 13 and I thought he was the best. I was listening to Bobby Darin records and all my friends wer
listening to whoever was popular at that time (I can't even remember). His records were hard to find but I found a record shop that sold old albums and my Mom would take me and that's how I got my collection.I've listened to his music all these years. (N
w I have my kids listening to it). It was always my dream to see him in person but it was not to be. His passing was a great loss for you and his many fans. I read your book a couple of years ago and I recently read his other biography "Borrowed Time". My
interest in Bobby Darin has never ended. I know you can't answer all these E-Mails but if you can I would appreciate hearing from you. Enjoy your birthday!

Bobby was the love of my life, my first love, in 1961 when I was 12 and saw Come September. It was also the first year I had a crush on a "real" boy, and Bobby's love songs were there for me in my ups and downs. I saw him perform three times, first at the
Moulin Rouge in Hollywood in around 1962, then, at the Coconut Grove in Hollywood, probably in '63, and last, at the Flamingo Hotel in Vegas, also probably '63. At the Moulin Rouge, the fans were allowed to go backstage after the wonderful show and have t
eir picture made with him. I spoke to him about something I'd read about him in the paper, that he had hurt his finger in a freak accident. He was friendly and warm, he showed me his finger, the scar on it. He was personal. He was so special. I had saved
oney in my piggy bank for our trip to the Flamingo Hotel performance, to tip the maitre d so I could get a good seat. I didn't get a great seat, but after the show, the maitre d told us (me and my parents) to come with him. He took us backstage, and Bobby
had agreed to let us come back and meet him. There were no other fans, just me and my parents. He made small talk with my dad. He was just so warm and approachable. He really liked people, he really cared about people. I feel so lucky that of all the movi
stars and teen idols I could've gotten hung up on, it turned out to be him. Dodd, happy birthday. I remember the day you were born. And thank you for the wonderful book you wrote about your parents. I was deeply moved by it. Wow, this internet/web stuff

I love your dad's songs. I was young when they first came out. I remember hearing "Splish

I'm sure there are lots of people like me who would like to hear more about your dad. That's why I was so happy to see the documentary, and see you on Channel 28. You seem like such a wonderful person. Bobby couldn't be prouder of you.

I read your book "Dream Lovers." Your mother is so sweet and beautiful. Please give her my love (from a fan she might not have known she had - me.)

I am glad you are out there "perpetuating your dad's memory" as you said because I sure want his memory perpetuated!

loving them! I've become a big fan of your dad's music, too, through the films they made together. Thank you for the wonderful book on their lives together. Please send my best regards to your mom, and best wishes to you and your lovely family! Happy
irthday, too!

Hi there! I'm 18 years old and have been a major fan of your mom's for about three years now. She was and still is a stunningly beautiful lady. Your dad was an amazing singer. I have his greatest hits and I love listening to his voice. Dream Lover is one
of my favorite songs. Between the two of them, they couldn't help but have one very talented, good looking kid. :) I hope you have a Very happy birthday, a Merry, blessed Christmas and may God continue to shower your family with blessings in the coming y
ar.
Take care,

Dodd: I had to come back and add some more to my
comments of a couple of weeks ago. Last week I
finally got to see the PBS special and it was
truly marvelous. All of the TV footage (especially his first appearance) was so fantastic plus those all too brief clips of him at the
Cocoanut Grove just took my breath away! Any
chance that a video of his Cocoanut Grove
appearance could become available someday? I wanted to say that I thought that the special (long overdue IMO) did a really good job in showing how much talent and influence your dad had with other performers. I sometimes think that, over time, people have
sort of brushed your dad off, but this special proved that well respected, well known entertainers were in awe of his talent (i.e. Sammy Davis, Jr. for one example) and were
heavily influenced by him. I thought that one of
the most touching moments of the special was
when you were talking about how much you miss him and they showed that picture of you at the Cocoanut Grove in your little tux staring up at your dad with those big eyes and that admiring smile on your face. I've never met your mom or dad, but I can cert
inly tell that you were definitely the most important part of their lives (anyone can see via that special how close your Dad was with you) and I only wish that he could've seen your beautiful daughter. It is also apparent that regardless of what she sai
(she'd would've NEVER given you to the Martians...moms say that, but they would never do it :-))you have a loving, devoted mom who's very proud of you. Well, I've
taken up enough bandwidth, so I'll sign off now
and let someone else have a turn! Take care
and hope you've had a great birthday!
too.
