On May 14, 1936, Bobby Darin (Walden Robert Cassotto) was born and what a special day that was indeed! In 1999 on
his birthday, many special honors were given to Mr. Darin.
THE BOBBY DARIN AWARD was given
at The Bronx High School of Science, Bobby's Alma Mater.
As stated
on the award:
Criteria for THE BOBBY DARIN AWARD:
The scholarship will be given to that senior music student 'whose demonstrated talent,
inner drive, positive ambition and individuality have made him or her stand out from the
crowd and command our attention. These were the qualities exemplified by one of the
world's greatest entertainers, Bronx Science alumnus, and namesake of this award, Walden
Robert Cassotto, otherwise known as Bobby Darin.'"
The award was given, on May 14, 1999, during the Spring Concert to senior student Mr. Kevin Cheng.

As stated on the award:
"May 14, 1999 was proclaimed
BOBBY DARIN DAY in the Bronx, by the authority of Bronx Borough President,
Fernando Ferrer."
Also, as stated on the award: "Congressman Jose Serrano (16th District, New York) inserted a testimonial to Bobby into the Congressional Record, i.e., making the homage an official part of our nation's history."

As stated on the award:
"New York State Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, 81st A.D. (Bronx Science alumnus, Class of '71), prepared a Legislative Resolution in honor of Bobby."
