Nov. 30, 2000: News from Harriet Wasser
Harriet has asked me to share this with you all:
Based on her current record sales and reaction to her personal appearances, JANE MONHEIT is about to become the next major star on tomorrow's jazz singers scene. So says Harriet Wasser (a/k/a"Hesh"), who predicted early on that BOBBY DARIN would become a world-renowned superstar. "Hesh" also predicted that MARC ANTHONY would come into his own as one of the world's star performers early- on in his career.
As we look into the career of Jane Monheit, we must credit her manager, Mary Ann Topper, a woman who has managed some of the top jazz acts in the business over a long period of time. It takes more than talent for any artist to come into his or her own. Jane has just reached 23 years old. Her first album, "Never Never Land" on the Warlock label, is making noise all over the world.
Harriet suggests that you be on the lookout for this brand new talent with a sound very much her own.
(Thanks Harriet for this information)
Hesh also has informed me that
Marc Anthony has recorded
Bobby's "Christmas Auld Lang Syne" which appears on the new Rosie O Donnell
"Another Rosie Christmas". ( NOTE: He really does a great job!)
To order this CD, as well
as other merchandise to help the
Bobby Darin Award scholarship

Nov. 12: Bobby on Flip Wilson DVD ...Bobby is remembered in Branson, MO... Bobby 's "More" featured on Kohls commercial
Bobby is featured in Volume II ( NOT VOL. I as previously announced and advertised at several online vendors) of the New Flip Wilson Show VHS and the one DVD of both VHS volumes from Rhino. Bobby is featured in the "Expectant Fathers" skit with Flip and Tim Conway. Also included is Bobby and Flip singing "One of These Songs" at the close ( both of these segments have been featured on the half hour "Flip Wilson Shows" on TV Land ). The DVD also features a photo gallery and includes two nice black and white pictures of Flip with Bobby as the Devil and one with Flip, Bobby and Charlie Pride. Many of us have received this DVD who ordered a few months ago . ( You can order it through the search engine here to help the Bobby Darin Award. ) The quality is excellant but alas, none of Bobby's musical numbers are featured, just the comedy. Still it is nice that Bobby was chosen to be remembered. (Thanks to Marilyn and Marianne for that information).....When in Branson, MO, be sure and check out Andy Williams' show at his fabulous Moon River theater. To advertise his new DVD ( SEE BELOW), a clip of Andy, Eddie Fisher and Bobby are shown ( among others) on a big screen before the show and in the lobby. The VHS version is also for sale in the gift shop of his theater. "The Best of the Andy Williams Show" DVD/VHS can be purchased through the search engine here to help the Bobby Darin Award. Also, Bobby is also mentioned in "Tony's Trivia" which is played before the beginning of Tony Orlando's show in Branson MO....Bobby's rendition of "More" can heard as the background in a Christmas commerical for Kohl's (Nation wide chain) department store. This has been reported by Pat (Darin fan in NY). I myself have seen it on channel 7 (ABC) from New York on my satellite dish feed, but do not know if it is being shown nation wide, check back soon.

Bobby Darin Biography on A&E to air June 2001
Yes, it is true...the A&E Biography on Bobby is in production. The Bobby Darin estate is officially involved and it is going to be something very special for Bobby. I have been told many interesting and exciting people will be interviewed by the producers, Peter Jones Productions, the same people who brought us the outstanding Sandra Dee Biography. Stay tuned for more details.
Congratulations from ALL of us....Congratulations and best wishes from all of Bobby's fans and friends go to Steve Blauner and his daughter, Moon. Her wedding day was August 19, 2000...also our congratulations and best wishes go to Andrea Darin and her son Armin . Armin was married July 29, 2000.
Darin sightingsAs seen on VH-1's The List: Bobby was nominated #1 in the Musicians Turned Actors segment. He was nominated by Doug Fieger, of The Knack.Unfortunately he was rejected by author Jackie Collins, who obviously has never seen Bobby's performance of "Hamlet".... Also on a recent airing of "The List" was Best Beach Song. Will Garson's (from Sex & the City) number one pick was "Beyond the Sea" by Bobby Darin. It was then picked for deselection by Olympic champion Tara Lipinski. But, the audience booed her and Chris Noth, the host, vetoed her deselection stating that "Beyond the Sea" was a true classic, and it remained in the running. The audience ended up selecting two 90's tunes for #1 & 2, and Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys for #3, but it was great to hear this little bit of exposure for Bobby to a wider audience of young people. (Thanks to Dave and Cheryl on the Darinfan email list for sharing this information) ....Bobby can be seen VERY briefly in the documentary on The Learning Channel entitled "Cheating Las Vegas" ...The program concerned the change from "the old days" of Las Vegas and card cheats to today's "High-Tech" electronic experts. Bobby is seen onstage during the early 60s. The program will air again on Saturday August 26, 2000 at 5:00pm CDT (Thanks to Donna Carter for this information)......
Brian Setzer sings Darin
Brian Setzer's new CD VaRoom contains a nice version of "Mack The Knife". Harriet Wasser, Bobby's friend and associate says "All of Bobby's fans have Brian to thank for his great new rendition of 'Mack'". Also, devoted Bobby fan Jimmy Scalia was in the audience for Brian's exciting performance on NBC's "Today Show" Friday, August 18, 2000 ( Holding a great sign to let Bobby be recognized!!!!)
